Upper: P.H.F.® (Personal Heel Fit) system uses two layers of memory foam to line the heel collar and mold to the athlete’s heel, creating a personalized fit. Padded tongue for step-in comfort. Mesh upper with synthetic overlays for support and style. Exoskeletal heel counter Heel Clutching System™ provides improved support and a better fit in the heel area. Biomorphic Fit® stretch material is strategically placed on the upper to help reduce buckling and the potential for irritation.
Midsole: DuoMax® support system utilizes a dual-density midsole system that is positioned to enhance support and stability. Solyte® midsole material is a lighter weight midsole compound than ASICS standard EVA and SpEVA® Gender specific Space Trusstic System® midfoot stabilizer creates a pocket between the Trusstic System® device and the midsole, allowing for controlled midsole deformation and more efficient foot function. Heel and forefoot GEL cushioning absorbs impacts for added comfort. Impact Guidance System (I.G.S.®) design philosophy employs linked componentry that enhances the foot’s natural gait from heel strike to toe-off. Removable ComforDry™ sockliner provides cushioning performance and anti-microbial properties for a cooler, drier, healthier environment.
Outsole: Guidance Line® vertical flex groove decouples the tooling along the line of progression for enhanced gait efficiency. AHAR® (ASICS High Abrasion Rubber) is placed in critical areas of the outsole for exceptional durability. DuraSponge® blown AHAR® rubber compound is used for enhanced cushioning and durability in the forefoot.
Available in widths D (Medium), EE (Wide), and 4E (Extra Wide).

March 2012
"Simply put, the Kayano is a Titan. Over its 18 iterations the shoe has consistently performed well for our wear testers. This lastest version earned higher marks than any other shoe in our test for comfort, cushioning and stability. The shoe feels like a padded boxing glove you can use to pound out mile after mile, pain-free. Testers raved about the fit – especially in the rearfoot, where a new external heel counter keeps a firm grip on your heel while wrapping your Achilles in cushy padding and soft fabric. Even with the addition, the Kayano is a half ounce lighter than its previous version. Points awarded. Bottom line [the Kayano 18 is] surprisingly light and delivers maximum protection. "

Comments about ASICS GEL-Kayano 18 Men White/Black/Hot Blue:
After many great reviews of the Kayano series decided to try(clearance price, why not) Maybe expectations were too high but so far I see no difference than my old 2100 series. Extra cushion/gel feels a bit clunky underfoot. After 3 runs my feet feel sore day after. Not sure if arch support is enough for high aches. Will continue to get a feel for them but so far not same results others have boasted about.

Comments about ASICS GEL-Kayano 18 Men White/Black/Hot Blue:
Holabird Sports has good pricing and they performed great. The Kayano 18 & the new 19 are too Narrow in the forefoot.
Asics went back to their old ways and are making their shoes too narrow for 30-40% of the runners.

Q:
Does this shoe run true to size or 1/2 size small as other versions of the Kayano's have in the past?Asked on 1/4/2013 by Anonymous2 answers
A:
This particular shoe states that it runs true size, but as you know Kayano's run small. It is recommended purchasing a half a size larger.Answered on 1/4/2013 by Community Answer from NoneA:
The GEL-Kayano 18's run fairly true to size.Answered on 1/7/2013 by Ryan from Holabird Sports
Q:
I have been wearing the Kayano series for years, and your comparison chart indicated that the GT 2170 would be a good shoe for me also. It is less expensive that the Kayano. How does the GT 2170 compare to the Kayano 18 in quality?Asked on 12/30/2012 by Anonymous1 answer
A:
The GEL-Kayano 18 is ASICS' flagship stability shoe. The GT-2170 is also a stability shoe and should offer a comparable level of support but it won't offer quite as much cushioning as the Kayano. In the end, both are good shoes, but selecting one over the other will depend upon your individual needs and preferences as a runner. Usually if a particular shoe has been working for someone, we recommend staying with that shoe instead of making a change.Answered on 12/31/2012 by Ryan from Holabird Sports
Q:
Does this shoe come in other colors?Asked on 3/12/2012 by Anonymous1 answer
A:
There are two other colors available in the Kayano 18. All three colors can be viewed here: http://www.holabirdsports.com/catalogsearch/result/?cat=720&q=kayano+18Answered on 3/13/2012 by Ryan from Holabird Sports
