To celebrate the 15-year anniversary of the Barricade, one of the most celebrated and iconic tennis shoes, adidas is releasing their Limited Edition Wall Pack collection. There will be four limited edition shoes released in the Wall Pack Collection, each one paying tribute to the most iconic barricades (walls) around the world.
The first of this collection was the adidas Barricade 2015 Saksaywaman Wall. The Saksaywaman is a citadel on the outskirts of Cusco, Peru, the historic capital of the Inca Empire. First built around 1100 CE, the wall is somewhat of a mystery. It was built with large boulders cut carefully so they fit tightly and precisely together without mortar. The adidas Barricade 2015 Saksaywaman Wall shoe was designed with vibrant colors and patterns to represent the rich history of the Inca people and South American style.
The second Wall Pack shoe is the adidas Barricade 2015 Berlin Wall.
I was a junior in high school when the Berlin wall fell. I can still remember my history teacher with tears in his eyes and the realization that I was witnessing something monumental. The Berlin Wall separated East and West Berlin from August 1961 to November 1989. Not only did the wall separate families and people, it symbolized different political ideas and philosophies. The wall itself represented these differences: on one side it was covered in colorful graffiti and on the other, it was stone gray.
The design of the new Barricade shoe captures both the stone grey of the East Berlin side and the graffiti of the West Berlin side. The designers did a remarkable job capturing both the somberness of the wall itself and the joy surrounding its destruction.
In addition to the one-of-a-kind collectible design, these are still the high-performance Barricades that everyone loves. The updated 2015 version offers even more steadiness thanks to the stability chassis moving to the midfoot. The 2015 Barricade still gives you the expected support, stability, and durability.
