Week 2: At-Home Barre Workout w/Inline Fitness

Welcome to week two!

The second video in the Holabird Sports 6-Week Workout Series is barre. Don’t worry, you don’t actually need a barre for this. It’s still an at-home workout. The only thing you may need are a couple soup cans, vases, full water bottles, books or whatever you’d like to use as your own weights, and a chair, which also isn’t necessary, but helps with balance and modification of the moves.

Instructor Katie Cook of Inline Fitness in Perry Hall, Md, leads you through a 24-minute barre workout and a 3-minute cool down with the help of her fellow Inliners, Amanda and Ashley.

Barre is all about the physical as well as the aesthetic benefits of lengthening muscles, while strengthening them. It combines Pilates, yoga and ballet moves to give you amazingly sculpted, lean muscles – without the impact and injuries dancers endure.

Another important aspect of Barre is the focus it demands, and the focus you reclaim as you go through your workout.

Our instructor for week 2’s barre workout, Katie Cook, began dancing at the age of 4 and continued extensive competitive training in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, modern and contemporary until the age of 18. After graduating, her love for dance evolved into a passion for teaching as well as exploring other areas of fitness. She is always setting new goals and challenging herself to improve physically and mentally and creates a classroom environment filled with enthusiasm, motivation and determination. Katie’s background in dance made her fall in love with Barre and she is now a Certified Pilates Instructor through Balanced Body Pilates and an INLINE Certified Barre Instructor.

In this workout, you’ll be working your ENTIRE body. From your triceps to your hamstrings to your core. After you’re finished, I know this happened after my first barre workout, I felt sore in places I didn’t even know existed!

These exercises work your muscles to their fullest potential using your own body weight and then stretch and elongate those same muscle groups.  By doing barre 3-4 times a week, you could see results of smaller waistlines, thinner thighs, lifted, stronger seats and flatter abs.

If you look at Katie’s socks, you won’t see anything really different with them, but the Adidas Studio No-Show socks have non-slip grips on the bottoms to secure footing during your studio workouts. Barre instructors recommend working out in non-slip socks so you’re focusing on your form rather than how not to slip on the floor. The ClimaLite technology of these socks also conducts heat and sweat away from the body.
