what is the difference between 15 gauge and 16 gauge string. I am an intermediate player with flat shot, what is a recommended string, tension and type of strings

      A:

The only difference between 15 gauge and 16 gauge is the thickness. 15 gauge string is thicker and measures between 1.41 and 1.49mm in diameter. 16 gauge string is thinner and measures between 1.26 and 1.34mm in diameter. There is also 15L gauge that is thinner than 15 gauge and thicker than 16 gauge. String preference is really up to each individual and may require some experimentation. If you are hitting the ball flat and not breaking too many strings, you may be able to use a softer, more playable string like Gamma Live Wire. With regards to tension, I often advise people to string in the middle of the racquet’s recommended tension range. This will give you a good feel for the racquet and give you some room for experimentation later on.
