Comments about Penn CONTROL+ 12 Cans:

I am a former D1 player and now live in Colorado Springs. Playing with altitude balls in the summer is just a whole different experience here. You have to back up and windshield wiper all of your strokes to hit with accuracy and pace. Some balls are better than others in the warm weather, but Wilson seems to bounce too high. I'm 5' 5" and feel like I need a ladder to hit balls with the younger players I hit with.

My girl friend mentioned she was hitting with these last summer and I have to admit, I was embarrassed to try them, thinking they were balls for kids. :-)

I just hit with them for the last week and it feels like I'm playing real tennis again. Plus, my friends didn't notice the difference, they only felt they were playing better.

I must admit, if you hit with someone who just pushes the ball over or cannot hit with pace, the regular altitude balls are fine here. But if you hit with 4.5 players or better than can generate pace and hit with lots of spin, these balls play like I learned to play in California and how I played at ASU.

If you play at altitude during the warm weather, do yourself a favor and play with balls that make high altitude play feel like normal elevation plays.

Comments about Penn CONTROL+ 12 Cans:

I am a former teaching pro and have been using low compression balls for the last five years to teach my own kids. I have used five different brands and have used all the different stages of quick start balls. The Penn Control, along with the Wilson green dot balls, are the best "green" balls I've come across.
Penn Controls are the most like real balls when it comes to feel and durability.
A close second would be Wilson green dot balls. The Penn balls have a slightly higher bounce than the Wilson balls. If your child is on the short side, the Wilson balls might be a better buy.
All in all, these are excellent balls.

          • About Penn
Penn is one of the most recognized names in tennis balls. Penn was started in Jeanette, Pennsylvania in 1910. Since then they have developed some of the most important tennis ball enhancements. Penn was the first to invent pressurized ball cans. Next they invented the first fluorescent yellow tennis balls. In 1973, the USPTA used Pro Penn tennis balls as their official ball. Throughout the past 100 years Penn has made revolutionary discoveries that have continually improved the tennis ball.
