Upper: P.H.F. (Personal Heel Fit) system features two layers of memory foam that line the collar and mold to the athlete’s heel for a personalized fit. Mesh upper with synthetic overlays for added support and style. Padded tongue and heel collar for step-in comfort. Discrete eyelets blend right into the style of the upper.
Midsole: Impact Guidance System (I.G.S.®) design philosophy employs linked componentry that enhances the foot’s natural gait from heel strike to toe-off. Heel and forefoot GEL cushioning absorbs impact. DuoMax® Support System uses dual-density midsole system positioned to enhance support and stability. Solyte® midsole material is a lighter weight midsole compound than standard EVA or SpEVA®. Gender specific Space Trusstic System® midfoot stabilizer creates a pocket between the Trusstic System® device and the midsole for controlled midsole deformation and more efficient foot function. Removable, ComforDry™ sockliner provides cushioning performance and anti-microbial properties for a cooler, drier, healthier environment.
Outsole: DuraSponge® outsole component uses a blown AHAR® compound for enhanced cushioning and durability in the forefoot. Guidance Line® vertical flex groove decouples the tooling along the line of progression for enhanced gait efficiency. AHAR® (ASICS High Abrasion Rubber) is placed in critical areas of the outsole for exceptional durability.

I loved the 2160s I had before I ordered these 2170s, so it was a no-brainer for me to get this pair. My most recent non-Asic pair was Saucony Hurricane, and I would highly recommend the 2160/70 over each Hurricane model I had (12 and 14 I believe).

Very supportive with good cushioning. With my previous shoes, my 50 year old knees were starting to ache after I ran. Now no pain whatsoever. I will buy them again and next time sooner.

I use these shoes for longer run training for triathlons as well as during the longer races. Normally will go with something a bit lighter for races up to 10K, but for triathlons ending in a half or full marathon, 2170s give a great balance of cushion, light-moderate weight, and stability. I love that I can take a pair of ASICs (DS Trainers, 2170s, and Kayanos are currently in the closet) out of the box and go for a 12-mile run and not worry about fit or breaking them in...they just work! I also like the looks of the blue 2170s-definitely turn heads.
