Midsole: Lightweight C-Cap compression molded EVA midsole provides cushioning and flexibility. ROLLBAR®, the TPU posting system, minimizes rearfoot movement. N-ergy is a resilient engineered elastomer designed to provide shock absorption and responsiveness for the optimal ride. ENCAP® is a core of soft cushioning EVA in the midsole with a tough polyurethane rim for more support and durability. Removable perforated sockliner keeps you dry and comfortable my managing moisture transfer. Full perforated EVA Strobel board provides increased cushioning and ventilation. Built on New Balance's standard MX-001 tennis/training last.
Outsole: Non-marking rubber outsole with flex grooves and a variable traction pattern for increased grip, flexibility and durability.

Since this shoe is a cross trainer, it is versatile enough for a variety of activities, including some walking. It is perfect as an "everyday" shoe or cross trainer, but if you specifically plan on doing a lot of walking you may be better served to invest in either a specialized walking shoe or even a running shoe.Answered on 7/3/2012 by Ryan from Holabird Sports
