Padded tongue and heel collar improve comfort.
Midsole: Abzorb®, New Balance's top of the line cushioning foam, features DuPont™ Engage® and Isoprene rubber for the ultimate ride. C-Cap® compression molded EVA improves midsole cushioning and flexibility. ¾ length rock stop plate protects your foot from uneven and harsh trail features like protruding rocks or roots. Comments about New Balance 956 GORE-TEX Men:
The leather on this shoe is great. They are very comfortable. Great for casual work or recreation. The problem with the pair that I purchased is, the entire sole is falling off. The rest of the shoe looks great. I would recommend these shoes as average. Unfortunately I overpaid for them at a specialty shoe store. I have other gortex hiking boots that are 15 years old and still work great and are holding up well.

Comments about New Balance 956 GORE-TEX Men:
I like to use this shoe everyday and, also, to hike trails in the foothills. It is a little stiff, but that makes it more stable for hiking over tree roots and rocks. I've only had the shoe for about 10 days, but so far it has been an excellent shoe for my needs.

Comments about New Balance 956 GORE-TEX Men:
I will be wearing these all-weather shoes/boots during the winter months in Michigan. They are sturdy enough to wear everyday, but the previous year models had the soles wear out quickly. I hope these last longer. This years model seems to have a really narrow toe box, which is strange, since I ordered 4E width.

Q:
I normally take a size 12 in street shoes and a size 13 in running shoes. Should I take a 12 or a 13 in these shoes? Thanks very much.Asked on 4/29/2013 by Kent from Minnesota2 answers
A:
The New Balance 956 GORE-TEX runs true to size. You should order the same size as your regular athletic footwear.Answered on 4/30/2013 by Community Answer from NoneA:
When purchasing athletic shoes, we generally do recommend that you go up a half- to full-size, depending upon the foot and the shoe. We would recommend that you try the size 13, unless you are planning to use these strictly for casual wear, in which case the 12 may be OK.Answered on 4/30/2013 by Ryan from Holabird Sports
Q:
I am looking for a hiking shoe with a deep toe box such as the New Balance SL-2 last, that comes in a 2E width. Does this New Balance 956 hiking shoe fit my needs? Or, would you have another recommendation?
Thank yoou,
Robert E. LeachAsked on 2/19/2013 by Robert from Liverpool, NY2 answers
A:
This boot may be what you're looking for. It has a deep toe box and is available in an EE width.Answered on 2/19/2013 by Community Answer from NoneA:
This shoe is available in EE and 4E width. It is built on an MOL-01 last. Like the SL-2 last, the MOL-01 offers a deep, wide toe box so it certainly should meet your needs.Answered on 2/21/2013 by Ryan from Holabird Sports
