Comments about ASICS GEL-Tarther Men:
Bought the 1st pair of Tarther a couple years ago for road racing. Felt comfortable right away. Ran 2 marathons, and had 800+ miles in them. The out-sole under forefoot is wore out; I am still using that pair when running on treadmill. Have bought 2 more pairs since it was discontinued.

Comments about ASICS GEL-Tarther Men:
I spent a fair amount of time looking for the right pair of sneakers to serve as a first pair of "minimalist" shoes. The Saucony Kinvaras were nice, but the 4mm heel-toe drop was too severe. The Asics Speedstars were not very flexible and just didn't fit right. Others that I tried on but didn't buy were bypassed for a variety of reasons.
The Tarthers are just right. They're super light and very flexible, yet the bottoms aren't excessively firm. I can feel the surface when I'm running, even while getting a reasonable amount of cushion support. And the heel-toe drop isn't as severe as many other shoes that are so light; I believe it's just 9mm.
I've only put a handful of miles on these, and those miles have been on the track, as I work to break them in gradually. But so far they feel great, and I really enjoy running in them. If I see any problems with increased mileage, I'll update my review.

Comments about ASICS GEL-Tarther Men:
I have been running with nothing but Asics shoes for high school XC, military service and D-1 college XC. I have made the transition to progressively lighter shoes, from the GEL-Kayano, 2160-style line, 2160 Trail, Trail Sensor, DS-Trainers, DS-Racers, Fuji Racers, XC spikes and the Pirahna's. I now run 55-70 miles a week and rotate between 4 pair of Asics.
The Pirahna's are a bit too minimalistic for me and I use them only for track workouts, but the GEL-Tarther will be my new trainer because it offers more support and is a little bit more shoe for your foot. Asics makes great shoes and I am very loyal to the brand. I know that I can pick up a size 13 Asics shoe and it will fit great. The GEL-Tarther hugs my arches and provides the perfect amount of support. The toebox is roomy, and the lightweight feel of the shoe makes it feel super fast. The traction on the forefoot grabs the road and trail and since I have been transitioning to a forefoot stride, it makes the shoe feel very responsive.
After my recent pair of DS-Trainers wears out, I will continue to train with the Asics Fuji Racer, GEL DS Racer and the GEL Tarther. They are all great shoes.

Comments about ASICS GEL-Tarther Men:
Think of the DS Racer, but without a stability post. The trussic is different, but the similarities are there none the less. What you get is a lightweight racing flat to go fast and set a PR, but you aren't sacrificing the fundamentals of a good running shoe. Again, there is a trussic to enhance the windlass mechanism, plenty of midsole to provide comfort, cushioning and protection and gel cushioning for shock attenuation. If you compare this to the Hyperspeed, another ASICS neutral (no stability post) racing flat, you're getting a much better shoe in that the Tarther has both a trussic and the SoLyte midsole material which has better protection and is lighter than the SPEva on the Hyperspeed. This shoe just isn't as well known because Ryan Hall runs in the Hyperspeed. Love this and will order overseas now that it's discontinued here in the states. Get them from Holabird while you still can. And did you see the price?? What a deal!!!
