Comments about New Balance 1140 SB1 Men:

yes these shoes are not the most beautiful shoes. However, they are very very comfortable. I am practicing for a half marathon and I am running more than 20 miles per week, I initially bought the newer model, 1340, but the price difference between the both models did not justify the comfort. I am glad I got this pair, it suits me very well, I have a wide foot so size 12 4E was exactly what I needed even with other NB shoes. one thing I wish they had with this kind of over pronation shoes is the design, they are not so pretty and the color selection is very bad, other than that, if convinience is what you are looking for, I deeply recommend these shoes.

Comments about New Balance 1140 SB1 Men:

The fit is too narrow and the toe box is too small. Also, quality of product is lacking. Not up to usual New Balance standards.

    Service and delivery comments:

Delivery was prompt as usual and your company is great. The product was not packaged very well and the box was mashed in - but no lasting damage to product inside.

Would you say the 1140 is less supportive than the 587?

            A:

Although New Balance designates the 1140 as a motion control shoe, it lacks the traditional posting system that provides support in most motion control or stability shoes. The 1140 does provide a very wide, straight base, which is common with motion control shoes. It also features Encap® technology that is designed to provide some support and pronation control by combining softer EVA with denser polyurethane. All in all, I would say that the 1140 is less supportive than 587. The 1140 is probably best suited for someone with low, relaxed arches, but minimal to moderate pronation or someone using an orthotic. If you are looking for a shoe that is somewhat comparable to the 587 in terms of support, you might want to take a look at the New Balance 1540 (http://www.holabirdsports.com/catalogsearch/result/?cat=720&q=1540).

        • Q:

Regarding description of this item: Are you sure this shoe is neutral? From what I read all over the internet, this shoe has some pronation control built into it... some new type which utilizes differences in foam density instead of the old post thing. If wat I read about the shoe is correct, I'd think it's more a mild-to-moderate pronation shoe, not neutral.

            A:

There isn’t any posting in this shoe. However; New Balance believes that the denser Encap® and wider base do provide some support. Our expert’s original opinion, due to the lack of posting, was that it would be better suited to a bio-mechanically efficient runner with relaxed arches to flat feet and a neutral gait. New Balance’s response: “Think of it this way if you build a really great base with a great infrastructure you might not need as many nuts and bolts to hold the house together. It’s all about the foundation and the implementation of different materials and densities between the foam to make it extremely stable. Its wide, flat and reinforced making it very efficient for a larger framed over pronator.”

So while there isn’t any posting, New Balance feels it’s still a good shoe for the mid-to-moderate overpronator. It comes in as more supportive than the 940 but less supportive than the 1540. We’ll update our info and look forward to customer feedback.

        • About New Balance
New Balance has grown to be one of the largest manufacturers of running shoes and they've done this without expensive advertising campaigns. New Balance knows that there is no better press than positive word-of-mouth. New Balance began as an arch support company, but in 1960, they designed the first running shoe with a ripple sole and the first running shoe that came in varying widths. It didn't take long before New Balance running shoes were used by college track teams all over the country. Today, New Balance makes their shoes available in more widths than almost any other company and that means that there's a New Balance that can fit nearly any foot. Although they started by making running shoes, New Balance tennis shoes are an industry staple and are loved by recreational and serious players. New Balance also makes fine running and tennis apparel, as well as a variety of socks and other sporting accessories.
