Proudly made in the USA.
Upper: Combination suede leather and mesh upper provides great durability and comfort with increased ventilation to help keep your feet cool and comfortable. Dual density collar foam hugs the foot and prevents heel slippage. 3M® reflectivity provides plenty of visibility, even on early morning or night time running excursions. Stitch on construction reduces the potential for irritation for a comfortable fit and a great ride.
Midsole: Encap® is a core of soft cushioning EVA in the midsole with a tough polyurethane rim for more support and durability. REVlite is an innovative foam compound providing the same responsiveness and durability of foams 30% heavier. REVlite offers a lightweight ride without minimizing construction or sacrificing underfoot cushioning or stability. Removable PU insert provides increased plush cushioning. Stability Web technology provides optimal arch support that's both rigid and lightweight while preventing midfoot flex. Built on New Balance’s SL-1 running/walking last with a standard heel width, instep height, toe box height and forefoot width.
12mm heel to toe offset.
Outsole: Blown rubber forefoot provides a soft cushioned ride. NDurance outsole features a rubber compound designed for maximum durability that is used in high-wear areas.

My feet and knees would ache after an hour in my other sneakers. I have worn my 2040's all day and my feet and knees do not ache at the end of the day.

Q:
I stand on cement floors for hours at a time. I need a shoe that will provide outstanding cushion and comfort to help me make it thru the day. Is the New Balance 2040 the one for me?Asked on 5/16/2013 by Glenn2 answers
A:
Since you are spending lots of time on hard cement floors, you will certainly want something with plenty of cushioning technology. But there are multiple factors that influence footwear decisions, including your arch structure and biomechanics (i.e. whether your foot overpronates and how severe the overpronation is). That makes it difficult to make a recommendation without seeing your foot in person. The 2040 is a very well cushioned shoe, but it is designed for a "neutral" foot with a relatively high arch and minimal pronation (inward rolling of the foot). If you have a low arch or your foot overpronates, the 2040 may not be the best shoe for you since it doesn't have any stability features. Check out our article about Foot Types (http://www.holabirdsports.com/running-tech-center/what-type-of-foot-do-you-have.html) for more information about arch structure, biomechanics, and choosing the right type of shoe for your foot.Answered on 5/16/2013 by Ryan from Holabird SportsA:
