Neutral. Hear the sweet sound of American craftsmanship hitting the pavement with each step in New Balance’s 2040. Their premiere heritage running shoe, the 2040 offers the ultimate performance, comfort and fit.

Proudly made in the USA.

Upper: Combination suede leather and mesh upper provides great durability and comfort with increased ventilation to help keep your feet cool and comfortable. Dual density collar foam hugs the foot and prevents heel slippage. 3M® reflectivity provides plenty of visibility, even on early morning or night time running excursions. Stitch on construction reduces the potential for irritation for a comfortable fit and a great ride.

Midsole: Encap® is a core of soft cushioning EVA in the midsole with a tough polyurethane rim for more support and durability. REVlite is an innovative foam compound providing the same responsiveness and durability of foams 30% heavier. REVlite offers a lightweight ride without minimizing construction or sacrificing underfoot cushioning or stability. Removable PU insert provides increased plush cushioning. Stability Web technology provides optimal arch support that's both rigid and lightweight while preventing midfoot flex. Built on New Balance’s SL-1 running/walking last with a standard heel width, instep height, toe box height and forefoot width.

12mm heel to toe offset.

Outsole: Blown rubber forefoot provides a soft cushioned ride. NDurance outsole features a rubber compound designed for maximum durability that is used in high-wear areas.

I thought id give these shoes a shot at $150, they worth every penny. Very well made shoe and very comfortable. I got tired of china made shoes. difference is like night and day when you go to american made shoes. Highly recomended. Liked them so well i ordered another same pair just 2 weeks latter to keep.

Comments about New Balance 2040 GL Men:

I purchased two pairs of these shoes and after a few weeks of wearing them I'm a bit disappointed. They are of incredibly high quality but are not a cushioning shoe like I had expected, like I had with the previous generation New Balance 2200. These are incredibly stiff shoes and while they do absorb impact well they do not do it in a soft way like the 2200 shoes. The 2040 also feels quite loose around the heal as if they were going to slip off at any time. If I tie the shoes tighter then the top of my foot is aggravated. I'm not found a good medium for tying these shoes so they are comfortable and stable at the same time. Also the insole in one of the pairs is terrible, my feet ache every time I wear the shoes with those insoles. I did swap them out with my 2200 insoles but you have to think that for a shoe that is originally priced at $275 that the insoles would at least be as good as the ones in the 2200.

These shoes do look great, especially in black and I'm sure they'll last a long time just like my two pairs of 2200 shoes did. But I'm quite disappointed thus far even if I did pay less than $150 per pair.

I stand on cement floors for hours at a time. I need a shoe that will provide outstanding cushion and comfort to help me make it thru the day. Is the New Balance 2040 the one for me?

These shoes are great for walking, running, or standing. Removable PU insert provides increased plush cushioning. Stability Web technology provides optimal arch support that's both rigid and lightweight while preventing mid foot flex.

                  A:

Since you are spending lots of time on hard cement floors, you will certainly want something with plenty of cushioning technology. But there are multiple factors that influence footwear decisions, including your arch structure and biomechanics (i.e. whether your foot overpronates and how severe the overpronation is). That makes it difficult to make a recommendation without seeing your foot in person. The 2040 is a very well cushioned shoe, but it is designed for a "neutral" foot with a relatively high arch and minimal pronation (inward rolling of the foot). If you have a low arch or your foot overpronates, the 2040 may not be the best shoe for you since it doesn't have any stability features. Check out our article about Foot Types (http://www.holabirdsports.com/running-tech-center/what-type-of-foot-do-you-have.html) for more information about arch structure, biomechanics, and choosing the right type of shoe for your foot.

              • About New Balance
New Balance has grown to be one of the largest manufacturers of running shoes and they've done this without expensive advertising campaigns. New Balance knows that there is no better press than positive word-of-mouth. New Balance began as an arch support company, but in 1960, they designed the first running shoe with a ripple sole and the first running shoe that came in varying widths. It didn't take long before New Balance running shoes were used by college track teams all over the country. Today, New Balance makes their shoes available in more widths than almost any other company and that means that there's a New Balance that can fit nearly any foot. Although they started by making running shoes, New Balance tennis shoes are an industry staple and are loved by recreational and serious players. New Balance also makes fine running and tennis apparel, as well as a variety of socks and other sporting accessories.
