Cons

Comments about New Balance 1540 Men's Black:

I walk 2-3 miles per day and this pair fits like a glove and provides the support that makes walking effortless. The snug fit (9.5, D)is the most comfortable shoe I've worn yet. Instead of focusing on the shoe and where it doesn't meet my needs or where its 'not right', I just walk.

Comments about New Balance 1540 Men's Black:

New Balance shoes are wearing out much sooner than they used to. They give decent service for, oh, 500-700 miles but then the mid-part of the soles totally disintegrates and the rubber on bottom falls off. In previous years, I could use my old NB running shoes for work/garden shoes for another year or two... but these newer shoes fall apart before that can happen. The non-sewn welds do seem to hold pretty good. It's the soles that fail early. I like this shoe because it is one of the few shoes anywhere that has both arch support and is built on the SL-2 shoe last. If you have duck feet, you don't have as much choice in shoes as opposed to people whose toes taper back. This shoe has decent (though not pronounced) arch support and the shoe has motion control which is good. (The neutral shoes cause my IT bands to hurt.) But the heels do begin to creak after several months. The tongue in this shoe, while it does not really bother me real bad, barely reaches to the top lace. The rubber tread on bottom is rather thin and wears smooth prematurely making them somewhat prone to slip on wet surfaces. I would love to change brands of shoe to something else but alas, the New Balance shoes built in the SL-2 last are all that'll fit me right.

Comments about New Balance 1540 Men's Black:

The running shoes are used for road workouts. The sizing is about right for me. They are a replacement shoe for one that is no longer available. They are not as comfortable as the older shoes.

Neuropathy is a medical condition and we would strongly recommend that you consult a qualified medical professional.

While not specifically designed for neuropathy of the feet the extra comfort and support can help those with neuropathy.

          A:

The New Balance 1540 is designated as a motion control shoe and is in the same category as the Brooks Beast. The fit is slightly larger than the Beast and the 1540 has support features on the medial (inside) and lateral (outside) of the foot. If you have severely overpronate, the 1540 is definitely worth checking out.

        • A:

These shoes compare very favorably with the Brooks Beast. Both are designed for runners with low arches and who have a tendency to severely over-pronate.

      • About New Balance
New Balance has grown to be one of the largest manufacturers of running shoes and they've done this without expensive advertising campaigns. New Balance knows that there is no better press than positive word-of-mouth. New Balance began as an arch support company, but in 1960, they designed the first running shoe with a ripple sole and the first running shoe that came in varying widths. It didn't take long before New Balance running shoes were used by college track teams all over the country. Today, New Balance makes their shoes available in more widths than almost any other company and that means that there's a New Balance that can fit nearly any foot. Although they started by making running shoes, New Balance tennis shoes are an industry staple and are loved by recreational and serious players. New Balance also makes fine running and tennis apparel, as well as a variety of socks and other sporting accessories.
