Trail. Take on trails, snowy streets, or casual weekend getaways with confidence thanks to the New Balance 956's GORE-TEX® design. Designed to be waterproof, these shoes have a laid back, outdoor style that looks great anywhere!

Upper: GORE-TEX® upper construction is waterproof. Leather and mesh upper is both stylish and functional. Rich eyerow hardware adds a great accent to the upper and helps keep your foot locked down in the shoe. Gusseted tongue design keeps trail debris out of the shoe. Padded tongue and heel collar improve comfort.

Midsole: Abzorb®, New Balance's top of the line cushioning foam, features DuPont™ Engage® and Isoprene rubber for the ultimate ride. C-Cap® compression molded EVA improves midsole cushioning and flexibility. ¾ length rock stop plate protects your foot from uneven and harsh trail features like protruding rocks or roots. Removable polyurethane sockliner for added comfort and cushioning.

Outsole: NDurance rubber compound is used for maximum durability in high wear areas. Non-marking outsole with aggressive traction pattern.

Available in widths D (Medium) and EE (Wide).

I just had some leg vein surgery and this footwear is so comfortable and supportive that my legs & feet don't feel strained or stressed.
I walk all day for a living and these things are a great luxury when i walk my dogs . When you're on your feet walking for 9 hours everyday it's nice to have some amazing footwear that i feel will prevent any further leg problems.

I normally take a size 12 in street shoes and a size 13 in running shoes. Should I take a 12 or a 13 in these shoes? Thanks very much.

The New Balance 956 GORE-TEX runs true to size. You should order the same size as your regular athletic footwear.

            A:

When purchasing athletic shoes, we generally do recommend that you go up a half- to full-size, depending upon the foot and the shoe. We would recommend that you try the size 13, unless you are planning to use these strictly for casual wear, in which case the 12 may be OK.

I am looking for a hiking shoe with a deep toe box such as the New Balance SL-2 last, that comes in a 2E width. Does this New Balance 956 hiking shoe fit my needs? Or, would you have another recommendation?

This boot may be what you're looking for. It has a deep toe box and is available in an EE width.

            A:

This shoe is available in EE and 4E width. It is built on an MOL-01 last. Like the SL-2 last, the MOL-01 offers a deep, wide toe box so it certainly should meet your needs.

        • About New Balance
New Balance has grown to be one of the largest manufacturers of running shoes and they've done this without expensive advertising campaigns. New Balance knows that there is no better press than positive word-of-mouth. New Balance began as an arch support company, but in 1960, they designed the first running shoe with a ripple sole and the first running shoe that came in varying widths. It didn't take long before New Balance running shoes were used by college track teams all over the country. Today, New Balance makes their shoes available in more widths than almost any other company and that means that there's a New Balance that can fit nearly any foot. Although they started by making running shoes, New Balance tennis shoes are an industry staple and are loved by recreational and serious players. New Balance also makes fine running and tennis apparel, as well as a variety of socks and other sporting accessories.
