Upper: Clutch Collar System™ is a descendant of the Heel Clutching System, an Endoskelatal collar compliments the exoskelatal heel counter for a uniquely secure fit. Biomorphic Fit® design features stretch material strategically placed on the upper that helps reduce buckling and the potential for irritation. 3M® reflective materials designed to enhance visibility during low light hours. Asymmetrical lacing design provides an anatomically correct lacing environment that reduces potential for irritation and provides improved comfort and fit.
Midsole: Impact Guidance System employs linked componentry that enhances the foot's natural gait from heel strike to toe-off. Rearfoot and forefoot GEL® cushioning systems attenuate shock during impact and toe-off phases and allow movement in multiple planes as the foot transitions through the gait cycle. ComforDry™ Sockliner provides cushioning performance and anti-microbial properties for a cooler, drier, healthier environment. DuoMax® Support System is a dual density midsole system that is positioned to enhance support and stability. SoLyte® midsole material provides a lighter weight midsole compound than ASICS' standard EVA and SpEVA® and features enhanced cushioning and durability. The Space Trusstic System® midfoot stabilizer creates a pocket between the Trusstic System® device and the midsole, allowing for controlled midsole deformation and more efficient foot function. Propulsion Trusstic® mimics connective tissue in the foot by creating tension as the foot enters propulsion stage. Dual Density Solyte® 55 Lasting employs 55 degree density of Solyte® lasting material in heel and forefoot for improved comfort.
Outsole: Guidance Line™ vertical flex groove decouples the tooling along the line of progression for enhanced gait efficiency. AHAR®, ASICS® High Abrasion Rubber is placed in critical areas of the outsole for exceptional durability. The DuraSponge® outsole features a blown AHAR® rubber compound for enhanced cushioning and durability in the forefoot. WET Grip® outsole is made from a special blend of organic and non-organic components, designed to enhance traction even on wet surfaces.

Bought the same pair of shoes (by accident) for my wife and daughter. They have both tested them and they love them. By all accounts, they are comfortable wear and look the part, since the women are all into color coordination. I can do no wrong at this point!

Q:
IS THIS SHOE ANYTHING LIKE THE GEL NIMBUS? I HAVE WORN THEM FOR YEARS AND THEY HELP WITH MY PLANTAR FASCITIES.Asked on 3/27/2013 by KJ from LOUISVILLE,KY2 answers
A:
The GEL-DS Trainer 17 is a bit different than the GEL-Nimbus. The Nimbus 15 is a neutral shoe (ideal for runners with higher arches and minimal pronation) while the DS Trainer is a lightweight stability shoe (ideal for runners with moderate arches and minimal-moderate pronation). The DS Trainer is a great shoe for speed training or even races and is a good choice for runners looking for a lighter shoe that offers some support features. As a general rule, if a customer is happy with the shoe they are wearing, we usually encourage them to stick with that model.Answered on 3/27/2013 by Ryan from Holabird SportsA:
Besides the difference in arch types, they are very similar. If you have a naturally higher arch, more than likely the Gel Nimbus would be better for you. If you're looking for a very light shoe that is great fro running, you will most likely enjoy Gel-DS Trainer as it does have some support for a light shoe.Answered on 3/28/2013 by Community Answer from None
Q:
I have been wearing the Gel Cumulus for years but these are cheaper. Will these provide adequate support for my medium/high arch?Asked on 2/21/2013 by Becca from MN1 answer
A:
The GEL-DS Trainer is a bit of a different shoe than the Cumulus. The DS Trainer is considered a lightweight stability shoe while the Cumulus is a neutral shoe. The DS Trainer is lighter weight and offers a touch more stability than the Cumulus. Generally, we are hesitant to recommend that someone switch shoes if their current shoe is working well for them.Answered on 2/22/2013 by Ryan from Holabird Sports
Q:
I have been wearing the Asics gel-DS trainer 16. Is the 17 the same as the 16, just a newer model?Asked on 10/30/2012 by Toni from MN2 answers
A:
Yes, they are basically the same, just newer.Answered on 10/30/2012 by Community Answer from NoneA:
The DS Trainer 17 is the latest entry in the series and it is the direct replacement to the DS Trainer 16. ASICS did not change much with this update so the fit and function of the shoe are very, very similar. Just be sure to try the new version on before running in it to make sure that it still fits your foot. Sometimes even the smallest changes in a shoe can move a seam to a spot that could cause irritation for your foot or other issues, so it's always important to make sure that the new version of a shoe feels good, even if you've worn the old version extensively.Answered on 10/30/2012 by Ryan from Holabird Sports
