Karhu's 2011 Racer features a dual mesh upper for lightweight breathability, combined with the closed mesh over the midfoot for support where needed. The Racer introduces Karhu's lightest but hardest, lowest profile fulcrum, along with a non woven TPU forefoot outsole with strategic lateral pods of compression rubber for lightweight durability.

Upper: Open face air mesh vamp is lightweight and breathable with no abrasion hot spots. Closed face ballistic mesh construction at the midfoot provides a supportive saddle. A supportive top stitch detail throughout the vamp is breathable with a lockdown secure fit. HF (High Frequency) welded logo and eyestays are lightweight for race day response.

Midsole: Precision engineered three part molded EVA with tuned durometers provide an extremely responsive and lightweight ride ensuring the quickest transition available. The asymmetrically designed Fulcrum in the Racer is the firmest and most responsive with a durometer of 77 for maximum momentum. EVA around the fulcrum has a durometer of 53. A removable high performance polyurethane Ortholite sockliner provides excellent moisture management and durable cushion with a great step in feel. Fulcrum Technology turns energy and pressure into forward momentum. Through the three phases of the gait cycle, the Fulcrum is designed to convert energy and pressure into forward momentum by transitioning the foot from heel to toe quickly and efficiently while the body stays balanced throughout the stride. Fulcrum reduces wasted vertical forces, speeding up the time the heel is on the ground. It provides a natural ride throughout the gait cycle promoting the foot's natural abilities. The foot follows the path of least resistance so large shifts of pressure to the outer and inner edges do not occur. During heel strike, the platform, extending back from the Fulcrum points, absorbs the force of heel strike loading the Fulcrum with energy. During the gait cycle, the center of pressure is balanced as it travels from the landing platform through the Fulcrum points, creating a natural path for the foot. The asymmetrical Fulcrum points allow for balanced heel strike and create the transition from the braking phase to the propulsion phase. Lightweight, low profile Fulcrum has been engineered for maximum momentum. California slip lasted for stability and comfort. The upper is stitched around an EVA board and directly attached to the midsole.

Outsole: Micro injected TPR outsole with a non woven micro fiber base provides great durability with minimal weight for the best traction. Compression molded rubber in the lateral heel strike area ensures increased durability at heel strike.
