Comments about New Balance 1005 BS Men:

Have bought and stayed with 600, 700(?) & 800 series NB tennis shoes over last 20 years. I took a chance last 2 times on the 1000 series. The 1004's I bought last year started out OK, but went "mushy" on support after 6-8 months. Tried the 1005 most recently as I presumed they would be an upgrade over the 1004. WRONG - i.e., these 1005 were mushy right out of the box. Light weight, yes. But tradeoff is support about equal to my leather moccasin slippers. Very disappointing. Also, know that 1004 & 1005 models fit nearly 1/2 size shorter and definitely one size wider than 800 series.
Admittedly, I am a "Clydesdale" at 6'0" and 230 lbs., so perhaps if you're a more "prototypical" tennis build (6'2" - 160 lbs.) the 1000 series may be OK. I will go back to 800 series next time for the support.

      Service and delivery comments:

As always, it is a pleasure to do business with Holabird Sports. Both internet and/or phone is easy.

Comments about New Balance 1005 BS Men:

Having a wide foot limits the variety of shoes available for purchase. While I am grateful that New Balance makes any shoe that fits my foot, I wish they would add a little style to their fat foot line.

Comments about New Balance 1005 BS Men:

I play tennis recreationally and competitively at a USTA 4.5 level, singles and doubles. At 49 years old my feet are tired. I switched from Barricades looking for a brand that made tennis shoes available in wider sizes. I tried the 1187 and liked them but decided to try these as they advertise more cushion . I'm very happy I did. I got a good solid four months out of them before wear through. No complaints what so ever. Of note the one year outsole warranty is top notch. A quick phone call and they emailed me printable postage. A week after I sent them in I was emailed a certificate that covered new shoes, shipping and taxes.

            A:

The 1005 does feature an all-court outsole and should perform fine on hard courts or clay courts.

        • About New Balance
New Balance has grown to be one of the largest manufacturers of running shoes and they've done this without expensive advertising campaigns. New Balance knows that there is no better press than positive word-of-mouth. New Balance began as an arch support company, but in 1960, they designed the first running shoe with a ripple sole and the first running shoe that came in varying widths. It didn't take long before New Balance running shoes were used by college track teams all over the country. Today, New Balance makes their shoes available in more widths than almost any other company and that means that there's a New Balance that can fit nearly any foot. Although they started by making running shoes, New Balance tennis shoes are an industry staple and are loved by recreational and serious players. New Balance also makes fine running and tennis apparel, as well as a variety of socks and other sporting accessories.
