      Comments about New Balance 1005 Men's Black/Silver:

Having played doubles tennis for many year in my New Balance sneakers, I am totally satisfied with their performance. They grip the Har Tru court and their available 4E width means comfort for my toes. Additionally, my orthotics fit nicely in the sneaker. This is THE sneaker for the senior tennis player.

They are also back by the manufacturer. I did once return a pair which were quickly replace by New Balance. I wouldn't play in any other sneaker,

        Comments about New Balance 1005 Men's Black/Silver:

Have bought and stayed with 600, 700(?) & 800 series NB tennis shoes over last 20 years. I took a chance last 2 times on the 1000 series. The 1004's I bought last year started out OK, but went "mushy" on support after 6-8 months. Tried the 1005 most recently as I presumed they would be an upgrade over the 1004. WRONG - i.e., these 1005 were mushy right out of the box. Light weight, yes. But tradeoff is support about equal to my leather moccasin slippers. Very disappointing. Also, know that 1004 & 1005 models fit nearly 1/2 size shorter and definitely one size wider than 800 series.
Admittedly, I am a "Clydesdale" at 6'0" and 230 lbs., so perhaps if you're a more "prototypical" tennis build (6'2" - 160 lbs.) the 1000 series may be OK. I will go back to 800 series next time for the support.

        Service and delivery comments:

As always, it is a pleasure to do business with Holabird Sports. Both internet and/or phone is easy.

            A:

The 1005 does feature an all-court outsole and should perform fine on hard courts or clay courts.

        • About New Balance
New Balance has grown to be one of the largest manufacturers of running shoes and they've done this without expensive advertising campaigns. New Balance knows that there is no better press than positive word-of-mouth. New Balance began as an arch support company, but in 1960, they designed the first running shoe with a ripple sole and the first running shoe that came in varying widths. It didn't take long before New Balance running shoes were used by college track teams all over the country. Today, New Balance makes their shoes available in more widths than almost any other company and that means that there's a New Balance that can fit nearly any foot. Although they started by making running shoes, New Balance tennis shoes are an industry staple and are loved by recreational and serious players. New Balance also makes fine running and tennis apparel, as well as a variety of socks and other sporting accessories.
