Q:
I have been using the Babolat Pure Drive 107 Plus Cortex circa 2008 or before. After using Holabird's racquet finder this Head racquet was the only one with the same or very similar specs as the old babolat. Would this racquet be a good replacement? I'm a 4.5-5.0 player. Also I noticed the string pattern on the Head racquet is 18x19 while the babolat is 16x19. Will the different string pattern make a difference? I currently string the babolat at 64 lb with a recommended tension of 55-62, and have had no issues. Would I be able to string the Head YouTek at 62-64 without causing damage being that they recommend a high of 57 lb? Last question what Head string is very comparable to Prince ProBlend 16?Asked on 3/22/2013 by Jake from Wheaton, IL1 answer
A:
Most "player" type racquets are only available with mid or midplus heads, so options for oversized "player" racquets are slightly limited. The HEAD Radical series has traditionally been available in both a midplus (98 square inch head) and an oversize (107 square inch head), so that is definitely a good racquet to look at. You should also consider the latest version of the Babolat Pure Drive 107 (http://www.holabirdsports.com/babolat-pure-drive-107-gt-2012.html) as that should be fairly similar. Finally, you might like the Wilson Blade 104 (http://www.holabirdsports.com/wilson-blade-104.html). The headsize on the Blade 104 is a bit smaller, but it should be a fairly comparable frame. The string pattern on both the Blade 104 and the Radical 107 is denser than the string pattern on the Pure Drive 107. This does affect how the racquet plays. In short, open string patterns play a bit softer and offer more potential for spin while denser string patterns play a bit stiffer and offer a bit more control. We do not recommend stringing over the manufacturer's suggested tension range, as it could damage the frame and void the racquet's warranty. Each frame plays feels differently, so 64 lbs. on one frame might not feel the same as 64 lbs. on another—especially if the frames have different string patterns. Whenever we have a customer switching to a new frame, we usually recommend stringing right in the middle of the manufacturer's suggested range the first time. This gives you a good feel for how the racquet plays and gives you plenty of room for tension adjustment when you get it restrung. Prince Pro Blend is an aramid hybrid (aramid/Kevlar mains with synthetic gut crosses). HEAD does not have an aramid hybrid in their string line, so there really isn't an equivalent string. The closest you might be able to get is using one of HEAD's polyester strings like Sonic Pro or Ultra Tour.Answered on 3/25/2013 by Ryan from Holabird Sports
Q:
I have an iradical intellegence, what is the difference to this raquet ... what is the best to replace what I have?
I notices the top string tensions have changed dramatically, mine has a range to 68 and I string at 64, this has a top at 57.Asked on 3/18/2013 by Derek1 answer
A:
There have been several different versions of the Radical since the i.Radical. This is the latest version of the Radical Oversize and the specifications are pretty close to your i.Radical Oversize. The manufacturer's recommended tension range is different on the Youtek IG Radical Oversize, but length, headsize, balance, and stiffness are all the same or very close to the i.Radical Oversize. The biggest difference is the technology used in each racquet. The i.Radical used HEAD's Intelligence technology, which featured Intellifibers that absorbed mechanical energy, transformed it into electrical energy and caused the Intellifibers to stiffen and return more energy to the ball. HEAD Youtek IG technology features Innegra™ fibers for shock absorption and stability as well as a specially designed "smart" material called d3o™. d3o™ reacts to the force of the ball impact to stiffen during hard impacts for more power and stay soft during lesser impacts for more feel. You might also have some interest in the Liquidmetal Radical Oversize (http://www.holabirdsports.com/head-liquidmetal-radical-oversize.html). The Liquidmetal Radical was the immediate replacement after the i.Radical was phased out and it is still available at a great price.Answered on 3/19/2013 by Ryan from Holabird Sports
Q:
I currently play with a Head Youtek Radical oversize. What is the difference in the Head Youtek "IG" Radical oversize. What does IG stand for?Asked on 10/10/2012 by Don from Madison, MS1 answer
A:
The YouTek IG Radical has a small difference with regards to technology. IG stands for Innegra™, which is a lightweight fiber that is integrated into the frame for improved shock absorption and stability. Other than that addition, the specs of the two racquets are practically identical.Answered on 10/10/2012 by Ryan from Holabird Sports
