I must start by saying I almost did not demo this racquet based on the reviews I have read. Luckily I did, because I have never clicked with a racquet like I did this one, and is now my personal stick.

I don't wish to speculate too much on the player's who don't get a long with this racquet, but if I had to guess, its the older style players with flatter shots and slower racquet head speed. I am a 5.0 modern player with an open stance semi western forehand, and this racquet was made for [players like] me.

This racquet is an offensive beast, meant for an aggressive player looking for a piercing approach shot and a finishing volley. It is a lighter weight, low swing weight players racquet. It has all the marks of a great players racquet: Great accuracy, touch, and a flexible frame (64) = stable shot making. The 16x15 string pattern and low swing weight (305) really adds some serious extra rpm's to both top spin and slice; ground strokes will jump up and feel heavy, while slices will skid and stay low.

A common critique on 95s is that it seems under powered, however for those with a long whippy stroke the power is just right. I wouldn't call it underpowered, but I would call it modestly powered: its definitely there when you want it. Personally, I would rather use racquet head speed to put more action on the ball, and an underpowered racquet allows me to do so without risking hitting long; I've never felt so comfortable and confident putting a short ball away.

Placing serves is a dream with this racquet, thanks to maneuverability and spin potential. Those that like a heavier stick on serves most likely will not feel at home with this racquet. Those with high racquet head speeds and kick serves will have no complaints however.

At net this racquet is as good as it gets. Fast and maneuverable, solid, stable, and precise. Touch is excellent, and the spin potential helps on drop volleys and short angles.

In conclusion, this racquet is definitely not meant for every play style. The smaller headsize will not feel at home with beginner/intermediate players. Defensive baseliners would generally be better off with a larger headsize, higher powered racquet. Players with slower and flatter swing styles will benefit little from the 16x15 string pattern. This racquet is made for the aggressive modern player with whipping-fast racquet head speed. I hope Wilson continues with Spin Effect development, and continues to include its potential in player frames.

I demoed this racket before purchasing one, and the down side was the poor selection of string they used.... I had mine strung with premium heptagonal polyester made in Germany. I love this racket and think it's awesome. I've received many comments like you've never played so well. I will be purchasing a second one soon.

        Regards Phil Champagne

Comments about Wilson Pro Staff 95S 2014:

I demoed this racquet through Holabird's Demo Program. I mainly demoed it to see what all the hype in Wilson's "S" racquets is about. I can say without any hesitation that it was NOT a good experience.

Generally, I think the problem is the racquet is too light and b/c (4?) cross strings have been removed, I didn't feel like I could control any of my shots. It kind of reminded me of those old school Prince CTS racquets (Approach, Graduate, etc spec-ed at 93 sq in and 14x18 string patterns).

Keep in mind that this racquet bears Wilson's "Pro Staff" name and so I think the wrong sorts of players will be attracted to this racquet. I play with a BLX Pro Staff 95 and this "S" racquet is NOT of typical Pro Staff playability. Basically, there is no control and the feel is off- both are typical hallmarks of Pro Staff racquets.

I realize that Wilson is experimenting with the latest craze to spin the ball as much as possible but this is the wrong line of racquets to do it with. I think Pro Staff lovers have classic strokes and these "S" racquets require you to violently whip the racquet across the body to harness the spin potential.

I think if Wilson is into trying to get the newest generation of player to use their Pro Staff line, then this might be the route to it. But it makes most sense for a beginner. After that point, the beginner will either develop classic strokes and go more traditional Pro Staff or become more Nadal-like and go with a different brand of racquet. I don't think there is much future in a Pro Staff "S" racquet.
