Why BLX?

BL stands for basalt, X stands for 9 extraordinary, proprietary technologies. BLX for the Perfect Feel.

Basalt: Basalt is a natural volcanic rock. It can be used in manufacturing where it is made into fine gold fibers with incredible vibration resistance. Wilson's new technology, BLX, has used these basalt fibers and woven them longitudinally with [K]arophite Black to create one of the most advanced composites in the industry.

With basalt, a smoother signal reaches the hand. BLX technology delivers clean feedback and better sensation for the Perfect Feel.

Linear Geometry: New frame technology providing up to 35% more overall stability compared to a classic beam construction.

AGT: Articulated Grommet Technology allows an extraordinary 76 degrees of string movement.

Double Hole™: Bigger holes allowing 26 degrees of string movement for a bigger sweetspot.

Triad®: A 3-piece racquet system where hoop and handle are separated with Iso-Zorb™ for superior comfort.

Amplifeel™: Amplifeel handled technology provides an even cleaner and enhanced feel in the racquet. Amplifeel also allows for a more customized handle system providing additional handle comfort to further support maximizing the feel in each racquet and player segment.

Comments about Wilson Five BLX 103:

I reviewed this racquet shortly after buying it last summer and was not happy. It lacked/lacks the power the older triads I used have .I now offer an update.OLder doubles player.
It is VERY solid--outstanding vibration dampening which is better than older triads.Great control---103 sq inch is smaller than old 110 but not a problem and it is more manueuverable for doubles and net play. Head heavy [I like]but again not as much as older and I find it more comfortable now.
To compensate for less power it does requires a punch on volleys vs a block[back to basics you might say].Ground strokes require more racquet head speed as does serve. When the racquet head speed is used you get good power with control--- not as much power as older triad but more control. Recently restrung with sensation [17 guage] down to 55 from 58 and more power is exhibited.I demoed one with poly and synthetic mixed[WIlsons recommendation for more power] and found it like hitting with a board---hated it as did my arm/shoulder.
SO if you can adjust game to more racquet head speed[if an older player with longer strokes ] or use a lot of racquet speed naturally and want great vibration dampaning and control go for this Racquet. It has allowed me to play more often per week with minimal shoulder and arm issues even during platform tennis[paddle] season when I am playing both.VERY EASY ON ARM ,WRIST AND SHOULDER.

Comments about Wilson Five BLX 103:

Hard to generate any power on ground strokes and volleys.demo with loose strings was good but strung at mid range(57) it hits like brick.Sensation strings on demo and racquet bought.wanted triad design for elbow.Vg vibration dampening,
Will go back to my older triad.New technology in this case does not seem to have improved.

Comments about Wilson Five BLX 103:

Use triad design for vibration dampening for a dodgy Arm. Have 3 older triads[Original release]. Love them but thought the new triad design might be an improvement as technology moves forwaed. Used a demo obtained locally which I liked. Strings were from Oct 2011 and a little loose but good power and vibration dampening. Ordered new one from Holabird strung at 57 lbs[mid range] This is tension the local shop stated they had strung it at.Used same string they used. also The racquet generates no power and no depth on ground strokes unless you generate very fast racquet head speed---more than required with my old 4.os. Volleys are absolutely awful with no power or depth. Have bagged it and gone back to my older racquets. Maybe a much looser string tension would improve it but at this point in time I am just frustrated after spending [$]. WOuld not recommend this racquet for those with classical longer slower strokes [me].

      Service and delivery comments:

Delivery was prompt and in good condition
Advise re strings could have been better .Found recommended strings printed on racquet side .They differed from what Hola. Rep recommended.

my daughter plays with a Wilson ntour two 105. What is the replacement model for this?

          A:

There really is no direct replacement currently out. Wilson just released a racquet called the Steam 96 (http://www.holabirdsports.com/tennis/racquets/wilson-steam-96.html) that is very similar as far as weight and balance. The Steam 96 is also 27.25" long, like the nTour Two. The biggest difference between the Steam 96 and the nTourTwo 105 is the headsize. The Steam 96 has a 96 square inch head, so it does have a smaller hitting surface than your daughter may be used to. Since there really isn't a racquet that is exactly the same, the best course of action may be to take advantage of our demo program to try some racquets that are similar and to find what your daughter might like before settling on a purchase.
