Upper: Mesh and synthetic upper is durable and comfortable. Air mesh padded tongue for plenty of ventilation.
Midsole: Removable sockliner easily comes out to accommodate a medical orthotic. Rearfoot GEL® cushioning system attenuates shock during impact phase and allows for a smooth transition to midstance. The DuoMax® Support System's dual density midsole is positioned to enhance support and stability. The Trusstic System® reduces the weight of the sole unit while retaining the structural integrity of the shoe.
Outsole: AHAR® (ASICS® High Abrasion Rubber) plugs are placed in critical areas of the outsole for exceptional durability. NC Rubber® outsole contains more natural rubber content than traditional rubber, resulting in enhanced traction.

Comments about ASICS GEL-170 TR Lady White/Navy/Silver:
I have always been a runner, but after 2 foot surgeries, one knee surgery and several herniated discs in my low back I have had to give up running. I have worn Asics for years and years at the suggestion of my podiatrist to control my pronation, so it was a natural choice for me to move from my Asics running shoes to an Asics cross trainer. I bought them without ever trying any cross trainers on but figured they could not be that different from running shoes as far as fit and size goes. I tend to wear running shoes a bit too long for me so my toes do not feel cramped in the toebox but I figured it would be a good idea to buy a properly sized cross trainer so I would have as much stability as possible for all the jumping and lateral movements I do. I ordered the 7.5 medium and it felt true to size and snug, as a shoe probably should. I immediately noticed the extra forefoot cushioning in this cross trainer, which feels very nice when doing plyometrics. The shoe is very supportive for lateral movements. I wear custom orthotics in the shoes, so I cannot comment on how much arch support there was with the stock insoles. So far I have no complaints with this shoe and would recommend it to anyone looking for a great all around cross trainer with lots of science packed into it as Asics always does. I guess the only thing I would change would be for Asics to come up with some more colorful shoes to wear as it seems that every new model I have purchased year after years seems to always be white and blue. I have been buying my athletic shoes from Holabird forever because they always carry a huge selection of athletic shoes from the most basic to the most technical and nobody can beat thier prices and customer service.
