I just switched to these from the Asics Gel Nimbus line, which I'd worn through maybe 10 pairs. I put 12-20 miles on them a week, and I'm a wide-footed supinator -- which is why I originally moved to the Nimbus, as they were recommended for gaits like mine. Recently, though, their rating just became "neutral," and I'd also gone through a few pairs that seemed a little more shoddily built than earlier editions. The apparently more substantial build of the Kayano -- also rated "neutral" -- appealed to me, as the supposedly supination-friendly designs of other manufacturers just looked uncomfortable to me. The Kayanos look and feel fantastic -- like a lighter-weight take on a pair of Nike Air Force basketball shoes that I wore out years ago. That's why they're four-star shoes: That fifth star has to be earned over time.
