In short, I'm happier than a pig in fresh ...um, mud... with my new New Balance 940v4 running shoes from Holabird Sports.
I'm a big guy - I have big feet! I got onto the New Balance brand 3 decades ago when I was running 50~60 km/wk. I'm now retired, but still wear New Balances for fit and comfort. As a brand, New Balance runs wide for their length, which is ideal for me. They've always been well-constructed, and - while very comfortable - wear like iron. (I have a minimal club-foot, and tend to drag one heel. Over the years, New Balances have taken it. Cheap shoes... Eh, not so much.)
The 940v4 is at the top of the New Balance running line. It's favorably reviewed elsewhere by big-footed pros. After wearing my new ones for a couple weeks, I'm satisfied the reviews are merited. On a personal note, I've always found New Balance runners require minimal breaking-in - they fit comfortably out of the box. My new 940v4s upheld that tradition nobly. Their heel support is excellent. It raises my heels just enough to shift my balance forward a bit, which improves my overall posture. (Less supportive shoes encourage my natural slouch. 8^) The sole's tread pattern grips well, noticeably so.
One little cavil about the shoes (sort of): The out-of-the-box laces. The supplied laces were flat cotton. The shoes' lacing eyelets are round. The supplied laces were also short (to my taste, any way).
