Shoe Technology
Upper: The durable membrane is wind- and waterproof to keep your feet warm and dry regardless of climate. Two types of mesh in the mid- and forefoot enhance stability and breathability. A high collar hugs the foot for ankle support on uneven terrain and contains padding for extra protection. The Swiss-engineered FlexLock system allows you to tie your laces with a single pull or lace them up traditionally.
Midsole: Speedboard™ support provides propulsion and stability to enable fast-paced hiking. This boot gives a smooth, rolling transition that's especially useful when traveling downhill. Cloudtec® cushioning ensures soft landings with every stride.
Outsole: Missiongrip™ rubber lets you dig into soft trails and gives better traction for wet rocks. A 360° rubberized mudguard protects against dirt, clay, and whatever sludge that tries to stick to the bottom of your shoe. The guard is tough, yet light and flexible to combine the ideal blend of speed and shield.

All the things I normally love about On shoes are present here. It delivers on everything promised...but nothing more. They are the most lightweight hiking shoes I've owned, and they are waterproof, which not a lot of lightweight shoes are (usually just water resistant). The outer sole they have developed for hiking is shock absorbent and bouncy--which based on the soles of their other shoes, I expected to be great--while still grippy on tricky terrain. The design, like other On shoes is pretty cool and minimal. Where I am disappointed is the insole. It is absolute crap/barely existent. It's pretty minimal in their other shoes, but those are for running and also half the price. For hiking, a sturdy insole with arch support is so important, especially for distance. These provide no more support than a thin sock. I immediately had to replace them after the first walk, which added a considerable expense to a pretty expensive shoe. Nonetheless I'd still recommend these, specifically for the light weight, but expect to spend extra on insoles, if you really want to use these for hiking.
