Last year, Summerlin, a former Marine, trekked 3,452 miles across the nation in 100 days and raised 50,000 dollars for veteran-focused charities, including the Wounded Warrior Project and Operation Welcome Home. He commenced his journey in Coos Bay, Ore. and finished in Delaware on July 6, 2012, averaging 34.5 miles per day. He consummated his historic run with a 100-mile final leg from Annapolis, Md. to Rehoboth Beach, Del.--a feat he completed in less than 24 hours.
Jamie's incredible journey compelled him to write Freedom Run, an intimate account of both the hardships of his run and the heartfelt stories of veterans he encountered en route. The book was launched in May and will be available for sale at Holabird Sports. He will read an excerpt of Freedom Run, sign books and answer questions during his visit to the store. A portion of the book's proceeds will benefit charities that serve U.S. veterans.
Summerlin resides in Morgantown, W.Va. and is currently the president of the board of directors for Operation Welcome Home. An avid runner, he has completed several marathons and ultramarathons and will race a Half Ironman triathlon in late July.
To help Summerlin in his support of the U.S. military and veterans, Holabird Sports is offering a 10% discount on Freedom Run and all in-store items, including running shoes and apparel, for anyone with a military discount, including all members of the U.S. military, veterans, and their families.
