Women's Final

The women's singles final is set—Maria Sharapova will contest her third straight French Open final against newcomer Simona Halep.  Sharapova won her first French Open title in 2012, then lost in last year's final to Serena Williams.  Halep is in her first ever Grand Slam final and unfortunately for her has never taken a match from Sharapova in three attempts.  Their last match—on clay in Madrid—did go three sets before Sharapova eventually prevailed.  The women's final is scheduled to be played on Saturday.

Mixed Blessings

The mixed doubles final was played yesterday before either of the women's semifinal matches took the court.  Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Jean-Julien Rojer defeated Julia Goerges and Nenad Zimonjic for the title.

Better Luck Next Time…

Young star Genie Bouchard made the French Open semifinals in only her second attempt playing at Roland Garros.  Though it didn't quite come together for the Canadian against Sharapova, this was her second Grand Slam semifinal appearance this year.  It will be interesting to see how well she handles the short turnaround for Wimbledon.
