March 2013 Marathons
March may be the perfect month to run a marathon. It's usually Goldilocks weather, not too hot and not too cold; and while there are a plethora of marathons happening in March, we've chosen just a few of our favorites to highlight.

Rock ‘n’ Roll USA Marathon in DC
Rock ‘n’ Roll takes over D.C. for their second annual Rock ‘n’ Roll USA Marathon. The course starts on Constitution Ave, passes by the White House, Smithsonian Libraries and Washington Monument. Live bands play throughout and there will be, of course, the post-race finish line concert with headliners Cowboy Mouth. This year they’ve teamed up with the National ShamrockFest—a day-long concert at RFK Stadium with 10 stages boasting 50 bands and DJs, including SUBLIME with ROME, Carbon Leaf and more. In addition to the music, you can see authentic Irish performances and sample a host of food and, of course, lots and lots of beer. Rock ‘n’ Roll runners can purchase a discounted ShamrockFest ticket for only $15.

Since 1978, runners have been winding their way through the magical city of Barcelona. Situated on the coast of the Mediterranean, Barcelona is full of spectacular Gaudi buildings, a number of which can be found on the marathon course. The course is relatively flat and totally beautiful. If you are looking for an excuse to visit Barcelona, you’ve just found it.

Maratona di Roma (Rome Marathon)
If you like to combine sightseeing and running, you can’t beat the Rome Marathon. You start at the Coliseum, run past the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and St. Peter’s Basilica. As you pass by St. Peter’s don’t be surprised to see priests and cardinals cheering you on. As you run, just imagine all of the major historical figures that walked those streets before you… talk about inspiring.
