Running Shoe Preview: Mizuno Wave Sayonara 2
After the successful debut of the Wave Sayonara last summer, Mizuno brings its dynamic lightweight trainer to new heights with the Wave Sayonara 2.

In 2013, the Sayonara replaced both the Wave Precision and the Wave Elixir and combined the best of both worlds from these models. Much like the original version, the Sayonara 2 suits neutral-footed runners and mild overpronators. Mizuno’s patented Wave Plate technology is tweaked in the Sayonara to give runners pronation control as needed. Those whose ankles roll inwards ater each footfall will engage the Wave Plate more forcefully, causing it to guide your foot forward and slow the rate of pronation. Additionally, the Sayonara will not alter the gait of a runner with a neutral foot strike. The shoe is built with a slightly wider base, giving a naturally more stable ride.

"The Sayonara 2 is made of a thinner and lighter breathable mesh so that the shoe is more breathable," said Mizuno Representative Dave Patterson. "We've also refined the fit of the midfoot and forefoot to accommodate more foot types."

In terms of weight, the Sayonara 2 is almost identical to the original Sayonara.

Runners who prefer a lower heel-to-toe offset may prefer the Sayonara as a neutral or mild stability footwear option to the Wave Rider series, which sits atop a 12mm drop.
