Who is Roland Garros?
The French Open is often called Roland-Garros, and it’s played annually at Stade Roland-Garros in Paris, France. Both the event and the venue were named in memory of famed French fighter pilot Roland Garros, who made significant contributions to the advancement of plane weaponry and was the first person to make a nonstop flight across the Mediterranean Sea.
