However, this latest edition of the Nimbus is significantly lighter.
Many core running shoes in the marketplace have been redesigned with seamless uppers to not only reduce stitches that cause irritation, but also to create a lighter package overall. Finally, the Nimbus 17 has been retooled with a virtually seamless FluidFit upper, making it one of the most significant updates for the Nimbus series in recent history.
After we weighed both the Nimbus 16 and Nimbus 17, we were pleased to find that the men’s Nimbus 17 shaved .6 ounces from the previous model—weighing in at 10.8 ounces for a size 9. The women’s model also dropped weight, tipping the scales at 8.8 ounces for a size 7.
Despite the drop in weight, Asics has improved the cushioning of the shoe with FluidRide 2.0 technology. The FluidRide midsole debuted 2 years ago, offering runners with a two, separate layers of foam to attenuate shock and to propel them to their next stride. The FludRide 2.0 offers 20% more
"bounce back," or energy return, and is 15% lighter than previous midsole compounds.
Don't let these updates give you the wrong. The Nimbus 17 is still a highly plush, every day neutral shoe that can withstand the daily wear and tear that comes from high mileage. The seamless upper and lighter weight might just make your runs a little bit easier.
The Asics Gel-Nimbus 17 is currently available in run specialty color ways for men and women. More colors will be available in March 2015.
