Mizuno Wave Rider 17 Release (Video)
Looking for a lighter run? You don't have long to wait. Mizuno is releasing their new and improved Mizuno Wave Rider 17 this December.

Three key updates have been introduced to the new Wave Rider to make it one of the lightest neutral trainers to date:

  • Updated Midsole: Mizuno has added the new U4ic (pronounced "euphoric") midsole compound to the new model, which will be 30% lighter but equally as cushioned as the AP+ midsole that was used in the Wave Rider 16.

  • Improved Upper: Runners will also enjoy an updated, sleek upper with reduced overlays and seams to reduce the weight even more.

  • Redesigned Outsole: Mizuno has also tweaked the outsole, opting for lighter blown rubber materials in lieu of a traditional carbon rubber outsole.

These three, key features have resulted in a shoe that weighs in at an astonishing 8.8 ounces for men (size 9) and 7.4 ounces for women (size 7). Most importantly, Mizuno maintains the integrity of the smooth ride of the Wave Rider, despite the drastic drop in weight.

What type of runner does the Wave Rider 17 suit best? Neutral gait runners who crave both the speedy feel of a lightweight trainer and the cushioning of an everyday trainer will love the new edition of the Wave Rider. And Mizuno loyalists need not fear: This model will fit true to its predecessors.
