Trail enthusiasts who tackle technical terrain at high speeds now have a go-to trail shoe that will suit them well for both training runs and races. Salomon offers the S-Lab Sense 3 Ultra SG for the runner who is looking for a low-profile and lightweight feel coupled with an aggressive tread in the outsole.
"This model has the traditional Sense upper, but sits atop the Speedcross tread, which is highly durable," said Salomon Representative Jamie Heaney. "With this type of construction, this will surely be the weapon of choice for those who race on trails from 5k to ultra distances."
The S-Lab Sense 3 weighs in at a shade below 8 ounces and has a 4mm heel-to-toe offset—13mm in the heel and 9mm in the forefoot. Like other Salomon models, the S-Lab Sense 3 comes complete with the Quicklace system, which allows runners to lace their shoes in an instant, unlike traditional.
"Thanks to our Endofit, our seamless liner technology, you can wear S-Lab models without socks, which is great for those who count their grams or desire the most natural run possible," added Heaney.
While many high-abrasion traditional trail shoes are understood to be heavy (and sometimes downright clunky), Salomon breaks the mold with this model. The featherweight sensation is hardly compromised by the heavy duty tread and sturdy lugs on the outsole. This shoe is ready out of the box for trail races of all distances, but may feel too aggressive on asphalt or street surfaces.
