Shoe Technology

Upper: Classic mesh upper with premium pigskin and synthetic overlays create a timeless look and feel. Reflective accents catch the light for visibility in dark conditions. TPU back tab adds heel security.

Midsole: FuelCell foam delivers a responsive feel to drive you forward. ENCAP midsole combines lightweight foam with a durable polyurethane rim to deliver all-day support.

Long-lasting, great support

I have gotten New Balance 990 shoes for my adult mentally handicapped son for years and would cry if they stopped making them. His short, wide foot makes it harder to find good fitting shoes. These fit well and hold up a long, long time even though he walks a bit differently than most people. He's never developed blisters. I really like these all black shoes because they are dressier for church and other such occasions while still being the sturdy shoes he needs.

I've worn the 990 series for many years: sometimes trying another maker but never for long, always returning to NB. and I really like the Reflection/marblehead color even though I have no clue what marblehead refers to.

My feet are so unhappy

I have worn NB 990v5 for over 15 years. I was horrified to see they are no longer available. Because I know NB makes a great product, I took the chance and got the 990v6. I've worn them twice and the pain in my ankle is horrible. I have no doubt it is a great product, but not for my old lady feet that use an orthodic. I am starting to take old pairs of shoes out of the donation bag and don't know what I'm going to do to take care of my feet. To say nothing of having a $200 pair of shoes that I cannot wear.
