WATCH: Under Armour Speedform Apollo Shoe Review
Just recently, Under Armour introduced the latest shoe in the Speedform line: the Speedform Apollo. This latest offering from Under Armour offers the extraordinarily light ride and crisp responsiveness of a performance model, while still offering enough cushioning to be used as an every day trainer.

In the upper, Under Armour maintained the theme of "clothing your foot," creating a look and feel very similar to the Speedform RC, which was released in Summer 2013. The key differences that differentiate the Speedform Apollo from the Speedform RC include:

  • A TPU shank in the midsole of the to provide a touch of stability

  • A wider base for landing

  • High-abrasion rubber that is strategically placed to ensure durability, but not to add excess weight

  • Adjustments to the form of the toe box in the upper

  • An 8mm heel-to-toe drop (versus a 6mm drop in the Speedform RC)

  • A slightly heavier weight than the Speedform RC due to more substance

The fit is the best part about the Apollo, hands down. The materials used, coupled with a seamless, one-piece design in the upper, results in a shoe that wraps the foot very well, while simultaneously offering a "nothing there" experience mid-run. Part of that may also stem from the ultralight weight.

Yes, this can be worn as an everyday trainer, but you may find that you will need to replace the shoes after fewer miles than you would with a heavier, conventional trainer. I did notice the light stability from the TPU shank, but would still classify the Apollo as a neutral shoe. Undoubtedly the shoe makes you feel fast (and the splits on my runs have proven it), but if you're putting in more miles, be sure to listen to your body. Fortunately, the 8mm drop does allow for a more "natural" stance and landing in the middle of your foot, as opposed to the heel, is easier with this offset.

Bottom line: For days that you're moving at a faster clip, slip these on. Or perhaps you're just tired of heavier trainers? Don't hesitate to add the Under Armour Apollo to your rotation. I was a fan of the Speedform RC and was pleased with the Apollo's elevated cushioning and support. It might be Under Armour's best running shoe to date.

I wore the shoes for easy runs and faster-paced workouts. Hear my thoughts in the video below.
