Midfoot cushioning is the best you can find. Along with the sole of the foot comfort the shoe supplies excellent stability. If you're looking for moccasin comfort you will not find it with this shoe. It's built for rigorous clay court tennis play.

I've played Gel Resolution for 20 years starting with the Res 3s. Each iteration of the Gel Res shoe gets more and more uncomfortable with the addition of "stability widgetry". They've reached the point where I'm out. Res 9s are like coffins on your feet. Stable, yes. Durable, sure. Cushion, practically non-existent. After playing 9s I have heel and low back pain that I've never experienced before. Very thick cushioned socks are the only way to make them tolerable. Even then I can't wait to get them off. So yeah, I paid $160 one month ago and they're being sidelined.
