The 2015 NYC Marathon Brings a New Grand Marshal & New ASICS
Only a few more weeks until the New York City marathon! The 2015 NYC marathon will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2015.

This year, Spike Lee will be Grand Marshal of the Marathon. Spike Lee is a well-known writer, director, actor, and producer. He's a tenured film professor at NYU and an iconic New York City figure. Spike Lee will ride the 26.2-mile marathon route in the Grand Marshal vehicle (with Ciaccia, the Race Director), participate in the Opening Ceremony and be a part of the live race broadcast.

Surprisingly, Spike Lee is the first New Yorker to be the Grand Marshal. Even more surprising, he is only the third Grand Marshal (the NYC marathon has been run for 45 years). The first Grand Marshal was in 1979. Czech runner Emil Zatopek was given the honor. Zatopek won three gold medals in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics and today is still one of the greatest distance runners of all time. The second Grand Marshal was Grete Waitz from Norway in 2003. Waitz won a record nine New York City Marathon titles.

While a Grand Marshal is a nice surprise there are some things we have come to expect from the NYC Marathon. For us, being a shoe store, the most anticipated are the Limited Edition NYC ASICS GEL-Nimbus released each year. This year it's the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 17 that is getting the very cool NYC version. The print is a colorful graffiti style with 2015 TCS New York City Marathon on the tongue next to the Statue of Liberty.

The Nimbus 17 won the Runner's World Best Update in their Spring Shoe Guide 2015. Runner's World says, "The Nimbus has long been the Cadillac of the ASICS line: the plushest, most cushioned ride you can buy. The 17th edition is a luxury sport model, displaying nimble performance as the lightest and most flexible Nimbus yet, while even more cushioned."

If you haven't tried the Nimbus 17 you will love the seamless mesh upper that moves with your foot. Gel padding is extended even farther forward for more cushioning (even your outside toe gets cushioned). The sockliner is lighter and bouncier and the external plastic cage provides plenty of support without adding too much weight. Perfect for underpronators to mild overpronators who need the cushioning and want the plushness. The ASICS Nimbus 17 is even lighter than previous models and the NYC Limited Edition print is more fun than ever.
